What we paint in Bells Creek.
Bells Creek is farm country, about eight kilometres west of Caloundra. It covers roughly eight square kilometres, and only 343 people lived there at the 2021 Census. Most of it is freehold farmland, and the suburb used to be bigger. When the boundaries were redrawn on 14 June 2019, part of it went to the new localities of Nirimba and Banya, and the Aura estates now sit right next door. Rendered estate streets are only minutes away, yet this side is still paddocks. Homes here are spread out on large blocks and set well back from the road. You'll find older farmhouses beside newer acreage builds, and many come with a shed or two. Each house is its own job, with its own driveway, gates and setup to plan before we quote.
What we watch for
Substrate and exposure notes.
On acreage, the risks come from age and shade more than salt. An older farmhouse may have lead in its early coats, and the Queensland Government says a pre-1970 home has probably had lead paint on it, so we test before any sanding. Fibro on eaves, sheds or old additions from before 1990 gets an asbestos test, and sound sheets are cleaned and prepped by hand. Weatherboards and verandah posts get checked for soft spots, which are cut out and replaced before priming. Big trees keep some walls damp for days after rain, and mould comes back there first, so we treat it and give those walls time to dry. Dust from gravel driveways settles on every ledge, and paint won't grip it. Every job opens with a full wash, using water we bring ourselves.
