About 7,270 people lived in Caloundra West at the 2021 Census, and most of the homes are separate houses. The older streets were built well before Aura, so those homes are on a normal repaint cycle by now. Bellvista, built around its lake, came later, and many of its houses are now old enough for a repaint. Townhouses make up a smaller share, and some sit under a body corporate. The suburb runs beside Caloundra Road, with the industrial estate and the aerodrome close by and a stretch of bushland that was never cleared. It's an easy drive for us, so dropping in to measure up or look at a problem wall doesn't take much arranging.

Walls here face strong sun, so paint on the north and west sides often turns chalky. We wash that chalk off first, or the new coat won't grip. Rendered walls can show white salt marks and fine cracks, which get cleaned, filled and primed before any colour. Traffic dust from Caloundra Road settles on eaves and trims, so they get a good wash too. Older homes often have oil-based enamel on doors and trims, so we test it and use a bonding primer where it's needed. Inside, years of old patches get a coat of primer first, or they flash through the new paint. Fibro eaves on the oldest houses get checked for asbestos before we prep them.
