Concrete and render on older unit blocks can show fine cracks and rust stains from the steel inside. Those get repaired and sealed before any paint goes near them. Older family homes back from the river may have fibro eaves and many old paint layers. We send off samples first, testing pre-1990 fibro for asbestos and pre-1970 timber paint for lead, and nothing gets sanded until the results are back. We also tap rendered walls to find drummy patches, where the render has come away from the brick. Paint over one of those and it lifts again soon after.
