Local context

What we paint in Wurtulla.

Wurtulla was the last coastal suburb in the Kawana Waters project to be built, with its first subdivisions around 1980. It sits between Currimundi and Bokarina and stretches from the Coral Sea, across Nicklin Way, to Pangali Canal and Lake Kawana. Since so much of it went in from the early 1980s, many houses on a street are close in age and reach repaint and repair time around the same point. The 2021 census counted 6,254 residents. Separate houses made up 83.9 percent of occupied homes and townhouses 14.2 percent. Just over a third were owned with a mortgage and 28.2 percent were rented. That makes for a mix of families paying off a home and landlords, often with a lease date in mind.

What we watch for

Substrate and exposure notes.

Forty-odd years of coastal weather shows up in the timber first. We probe fascia ends and window sills, and any soft wood is replaced before paint. Fibro eaves from the early 1980s get an asbestos test, and sound sheets are prepared by hand only. Houses on the beach side take salt carried in on the wind. Houses backing onto the lake or canal stay damp longer after dew, so mould on those walls is treated before any primer. Any fibre cement cladding gets its joins checked for split sealant. Bare metal on gutters and balustrades is primed before the topcoat, because rust spreads fast under fresh paint near the water.

Shops, offices and unit blocks

Commercial painting in Wurtulla.

Wurtulla is mostly homes, but plenty of commercial work sits close by. The shops along Nicklin Way, Kawana Shoppingworld at Buddina and the medical and office buildings around Sunshine Coast University Hospital at Birtinya, across Lake Kawana, all have tenants who want painting done outside trading hours. We can schedule after hours so staff and patients stay clear of wet paint. Townhouse complexes in Wurtulla and the nearby Kawana suburbs bring body corporate work too, from common walls and fences to garage doors, with colours approved by the committee before we begin.

  • “I recently hired J James Painting Contractors to undertake the task of painting both the internal and external walls of my home, and I must say that I was highly impressed with their services. They also gap filled nail holes around the window seals and sanded them to perfection, which was a job well done. The team was highly experienced and reliable, and they finished the project within a very short time frame, which is quite impressive. The ceilings were also painted, matching the existing paint perfectly, giving my home a fresh new look. Overall, I highly recommend J James Painting Contractors to anyone looking for fast, efficient, and reliable painting services. They exceeded my expectations in every way and I am extremely satisfied with the results of their work. Thank you so much for a job well done!”

Common questions

Painting in Wurtulla: common questions.

  • Do you send painters out to Wurtulla?

Yes. Wurtulla is part of the Kawana Waters stretch we cover, from the beach streets to the homes backing onto Lake Kawana. Most houses here date from the 1980s on, so timber repairs often come before paint. Our Wurtulla exterior page covers that in detail, and there’s a separate page for Kawana itself. If you own a townhouse, check the complex’s colour rules with your strata manager first.

  • What sets the start date for a Wurtulla repaint?

Mostly the season and the repair list. We put a start date on the written quote once we’ve walked the house. If fascias or sills need replacing, that work goes first, and the paint date allows for it. The wetter months from summer into autumn can stretch an outside job, so let us know early if a lease or sale date is fixed.

  • Roughly what does a Wurtulla house cost to repaint?

As a guide, eaves, fascias and gutters on their own run $1,500 to $4,500. A full single-storey exterior on a mixed or general house sits around $9,000 to $22,000, and a full 4-bedroom interior about $10,000 to $18,000. Timber repairs are priced on their own lines. Our house painting cost guide breaks the ranges down, and a walk around the house with us turns them into a written price.
